September 2021 Zoom CLE: California Criminal Justice Reform Update

Women Lawyers Association
Presents

California Criminal Justice Reform Update

Sheryl Wolcott and Kara Stein-Conaway will discuss recent changes in California criminal law that illustrate the movement away from traditional convictions and incarceration. New diversion and treatment options are being created, and post-conviction remedies and retroactive application of legal changes are resulting in conviction and sentence reduction.

The Women Lawyers Association of San Luis Obispo County is a California State Bar approved MCLE provider. This program qualifies for one (1.0) hour of MCLE participatory credit. Please Join Us (remotely)!

Kara Stein-Conaway

Kara Stein-Conaway is an attorney who has been exclusively practicing criminal defense since 2008 when she started her career as a Deputy Public Defender in Los Angeles County. In 2017, Ms. Stein-Conaway opened the Stein-Conaway Law Firm, P.C., where she is the owner and managing attorney and where she practices with her father, attorney Jeff Stein. Ms. Stein-Conaway is fluent in Spanish and represents both English and Spanish-speaking adult clients in criminal matters in San Luis Obispo County.

Ms. Stein-Conaway also passionately advocates that career women should prioritize their own well-being by practicing more self-care and self-love. She believes that the model of working ourselves into the ground as a measure of success and contribution is outdated and unhealthy. She is an advocate for developing a new way of relating to our work and seeks to disrupt the legal industry and beyond with her self-care and self-love advocacy. She shares her stories of how she practices these things in career and motherhood, inspiration, and tools as the host of the Business Mamas Podcast. [www.karasteinconaway.com/podcast]
