Human Trafficking
Technology and the convergence of human rights is at an all time high. Issues such as human trafficking are exacerbated by the misuse of technology as well as the exploitation of individuals around the development of it. Human traffickers use common social media platforms, websites, and gaming applications to recruit, sell, and exploit individuals, while bonded and forced labor commonly occurs in the development of technology. Our speaker, Danielle Borrelli, will dive into how this convergence continues to exist and why innovative training, effective policies and legislation, and accurate awareness in both the private and public sector must occur to effectively fight this growing humanitarian crisis.
This program qualifies for one (1.0) hour MCLE credit. Please Join Us (remotely)!
OUR SPEAKER:
Danielle Borrelli | California Cybersecurity Institute
Danielle Borrelli is the Operations Coordinator at the California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) and the Program Lead for the Trafficking Investigations Hub (TIH). She oversees the implementation of all CCI events, training courses, and projects, and develops and delivers training and technical resources addressing the role of technology in recruiting and exploiting human trafficking victims. Borrelli is also a local, regional, and international anti-human trafficking advocate with nine years experience in prevention, intervention, and restoration work. Having previously served on the San Luis Obispo (SLO) County District Attorney's Human Trafficking Task Force as their Housing Subcommittee Chair, she has helped start and consulted on the development and sustainability of four separate housing programs. Borrelli also works with schools and businesses to provide training in human trafficking awareness. In addition, she provides mentoring to survivors of trafficking, and counseling to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Borrelli was recently named California Polytechnic State University's Employee of the Year for 2018-2019, SLO Tribune's Top 20 under 40 for 2019, and Jordan Cunningham's 35th District Woman of the Year. Borrelli has a passion to serve and help liberate the voiceless in society and sees the powerful effects of technology to hurt, but more importantly to help heal and prevent the issue of human trafficking.
