Women Lawyers Association
Presents
Non-Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault
March MCLE: March is Women's History Month. On June 23, 1972, Title IX, a statute intended to end sex discrimination in education, became the law of the land. While most famous for its requirement that schools provide girls with equal athletic opportunities, the law applies to all educational programs that receive federal funding, and to all aspects of an institution's educational system. Under Title IX, discrimination can include sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Our speaker is Maren Hufton, who is the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and the Title IX Coordinator at nationally-ranked Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Hufton will discuss the evolution of Title IX as a non-discrimination law and a process for addressing sexual harassment and sexual assault. She will describe the anatomy of a campus investigation today, following the 2020 release of new federal regulations by the Department of Education.
The WLA will also present our award for
Outstanding Women Lawyer.
The Women Lawyers Association of San Luis Obispo County is a California State Bar approved MCLE provider. This program qualifies for one (1.0) hour of Elimination of Bias MCLE participatory credit. Please Join Us (remotely)!
