OUR SPEAKER:

Mary Tatum

Mary Tatum

Born and raised on the California coast, Mary Tatum grew up in a family defined by integrity, hard work and compassion for others. Higher education was valued but largely out of reach. Despite daunting financial challenges, Mary graduated from California Lutheran University and completed her law degree at Ventura College of Law. She joined the District Attorney’s Office in Ventura County, where she worked for 8 years before proceeding to Monterey County and a similar position with the DA’s office there for an additional 21 years.

She managed difficult case types including domestic violence, assaults, gang cases, preliminary hearings, motions court and jury trials and earned a reputation as a tough, tenacious lawyer who never gave up. Over the course of her career as a prosecutor, Mary learned much about the legal system, how trials work (and can be avoided) and how lawyers manage both sides of the courtroom. She won case after case.

In 2021, Mary was ready for a new challenge. She moved to SLO County and a defense lawyer practice, where she now helps people facing serious legal challenges. The Mary Tatum Law Group is anchored by Mary and supported by a detail-focused team of staff members. The Mary Tatum Law Group brings insight and a fierce belief in fairness and kindness to everything it does, all under the leadership of a straight-talking, no-nonsense professional who gets the job done.
